Last Friday saw the finals of the Kilworth Sports Complex sponsored Team Singles Tournament took place Friday.  After fifteen nights of competition and almost ninety matches later Team A and Team G contested the finals.

On this Friday night, 19th June the finals of the Kilworth Sports Complex sponsored Team Singles Competition will take place.  Over the last few weeks eights teams have been contesting the first tournament of the year. Team A and Team G have qualified for the finals. See recent entries for details.

So, come to Kilworth Tennis Club where you can enjoy some tennis matches in the Finals of the first competition of the new season. Apres Tennis will happen in Cotters Bar after the presentation of prizes at the Tennis Club.

Congrats to our under 14 team, who played in Sundays Well on 17th May in the second round of the Munster Summer U14 Cup.  All 6 members represented their Club with tremendous determination and skill but were unfortunately  beaten by the home team in Sundays Well. While this defeat terminates this tournament for the dynamic group of 6, they continue to play competitively and prepare for their next challenge. This team comprises of Brid Horgan, Gill and Una Blackburn,  Patrick Noonan, Michael Dunne and Ben Clancy. Well done to these players and to those involved in coaching all of the juveniles in Kilworth Tennis Club

 

Our U 14 Kilworth Team travelled to Tramore on Sunday 26th April for the 1st round of the Munster Championship. Weather was kind to all
players and rain stayed away for the majority of play.

Kilworth Tennis Club has a new Chairman.  John D’Arcy who has been a very dedicated and active member over the last few years was elected to the position of Chairman at last weeks AGM.  John is joined at the Top Table by Mag Frawley as Treasurer and the position of Secretary will be filled at a meeting this week (this publication will be gone to press before this meeting happens).

Congratulations to Kilworth on winning 1st place in its section in the Pride of Place competition. Congratulations to all concerned and well done also to those in the Tennis Club who participated when judging took place in July.

The inclement weather was no deterrent to our enthusiastic and committed U12 and U14 teams who played in fairly dreadful conditions over the weekend.
 

The U12 team had an early start on Saturday morning for a 9 a.m. match in Whitechurch. Their visit was worth while as they took first place in the league’s opening stages and meet Mallow in the semi finals.
 

The U14s travelled to Cashel on Friday evening and played some great tennis but were defeated on the night by Larkspur for a place in the South Tipperary League against Emly. They continued their North Cork League campaign with matches in Mallow on Saturday and at home to Whitechurch on Sunday. Their next match v Ballyhooly will have taken place on Wednesday and as I report, the team aims for a place in the semi finals at the weekend. 

En route to play Mallow, Lourdes Barry got an invitation to play for President McAleese in Cappoquin on Saturday evening – well done Lourdes.
 

Best of luck to both teams. You have done the Club proud with your effort and dedication throughout both leagues.

 
A Club League for juveniles will commence when the North Cork and South Tipp competitions are finished.

Our ladies four team of Claire O’Flynn, Ursula Gubbins, Rebecca Clarke and Ailish Murphy were in action again this week in the South Tipp League. This week they played Cappawhite in Kilworth and came out convincing winners on a score of 36 games to 3. This Thursday see’s the ladies in action again this time away to Cappawhite. Then their last game is to be played next Wednesday away to Castleview.

Our four ladies of Claire O'Flynn, Ursula Gubbins, Rebecca Clarke and Ailish Murphy are progressing well in the South Tipp League. They won their first game away to Castleview on a convincing score of 36-10 last Tuesday and they take to the court again this week against Cappawhite at home. Their next outing then will be their home game against Castleview on Wednesday evening the 23rd July 2008

Our Grade 5 mixed team of Majella Blackburn, Mary Blackburn, Emmett Coffey and Matt Bermingham advanced to the next round of this competition when they beat a team from Causeway Tennis Club, Dungarvan. They play Sunday's Well in the next round.
